Vex, a young basketball player with turquoise braids and an orange vest, spins a basketball on one finger in a brick-walled court.

How it plays

Three things to learn. That is all of them.

The game screen: a glowing basketball at the bottom, a hoop on a brick wall above, and the words flick up.

Flick

Flick up with your thumb. The direction aims; the length of the flick sets the power. There are no buttons to find.

The score reads 9 with the words on fire, times two, as the ball drops through the hoop.

Swish

Drop it in without touching the rim and you start a streak. Three in a row and the ball catches fire: every basket counts double until you miss.

Dozer, a huge bearded defender in a purple coat, leaps in front of the hoop with both arms raised.

Beat Dozer

He guards the hoop all round. From 50 points he starts to jump. Watch for his crouch, and shoot around him.

What is in it

Small on purpose

  • One gesture. Play it with one hand, standing on a bus.
  • Thirty-second rounds. Start in two seconds, stop any time.
  • Every swish buys time on the clock.
  • A hoop that moves. It slides at 10 points and speeds up at 25.
  • A camera that reacts: a kick on release, a shake on the rim, slow motion on a perfect shot.
  • Two hoops to choose from and nine achievements to earn.
  • Left or right handed: move the pause button to the side you want.
  • No account and no internet needed. Ever.

Who is on court

Two people and a ball

Vex standing on the court with a basketball balanced on her fingertip.

Courtside

Vex

She stands at the side of the court and lets you know how you are doing: a hop and both arms up when you score, a slump when you miss.

Dozer, a towering man with a grey beard, brass goggles and gauntlets, a long purple coat and a cream shirt, with his arms held wide.

The wall

Dozer

Very big, in a very long coat. He shuffles across the lane in front of the hoop and, from 50 points, jumps to block. He always crouches first. Always.
